Don’t these Wizard Lord, King, Demigod and God levels make the game Pay-to-Win?

No - every player starts the same - with a level 1 wizard - no matter which reward tier they paid for. Those who back at Forgemaster level do get a personalised set of equipment, but this also starts at level 1, and can only be levelled up if the owning wizard also levels up. It is not initially any better than the plentiful level 1 equipment that can be found in the Realms of Chaos. The higher social ranks, from Wizard Lord and above, do grant some extra game play modes which can allow the player’s wizard to earn some Experience Points for levelling up using these modes - but it is not any easier doing this than the regular adventuring or multiplayer battles. This is because a wizard can only find new spells and equipment through the regular game play of adventuring and multiplayer tournaments. Having a higher level wizard does not give you any advantage other than the opportunity to improve equipment up to the wizard’s level. The wizard level does affect the Realm level created by Wizard Kings, Demigods or Gods - which affects the type of things which may be placed in realms. Any player can progress through the ranks from Wizard Lord all the way up to God, but they could also be demoted from these ranks if they prove to be poor performers or too inactive. Those who back the reward tiers on Kickstarter will not suffer demotion from their rank, regardless of performance, but neither are they guaranteed successful advancement unless they make some effort and perform well at their rank. When will the alpha be released to backers?

We will attempt to release our multiplayer prototype to backers within 2-3 months of the kickstarter campaign finishing - we have to do some work on the server infrastructure to put it on solid foundations. It couldn’t exactly be called an ‘alpha’, since it is feature incomplete, but it will allow you to play multiplayer, online games of Chaos Reborn. We will be updating our releases regularly through multiple alpha and beta versions up to final release next May. Last updated: Mon, Mar 17 2014 7:07 am EDT

Can any player become a God?

Yes, any player can work their way up through the Social Ranks - from Wizard Lord, to Wizard King, to Demigod and then finally a God. This does take effort, skill, cunning, creativity, ingenuity, time and planning. You will need to muster a whole range of skills to ascend to Godhood - but it can be done, and it will be fun getting there. In order to qualify for the next rank you need to be in a group of highest qualified players at that specific rank. The qualification rating is based on several independent factors: - Wizard level - increased by accumulating Experience Points in any battle - Multiplayer league level - you ascend the multiplayer leagues through ranked matches - Artefact rating - the quantity and levels of your equipment, and the value of special artefacts This allows players to focus on different areas of the game, but still progress. Multiplayer focussed gamers and single player (or co-op) focussed gamers can still rise up. There are also additional qualifiers, dependent on the current rank: - Wizard Lords who win battles as an AI controlled defender of regions inside realms - Wizard Kings who win battles as an AI controlled ruler of a Realm, and adventurers ratings of designed realms - Demigods who win battles as an AI controlled ruler of a Realm, and a qualifier based on their guild rating The lowest rated players at each rank will also be demoted, so players will have to actively work on maintaining their rank. Gods can be demoted if they lose too many worshippers, so even they are not immune from disgrace. It’s not easy being at the top! NOTE: If you backed the game at a certain Social Rank level you will never be demoted from that level, but you can ascend ranks. For example, as a Wizard Lord backer, you will never be demoted to apprentice, but you could become a King. You could then be demoted from King, but you fall back to your safe level at Wizard Lord and no lower. As a backer you can feel safe and secure in your social status. NOTE: Only backers will get the special visual auras that really make your wizard stand out on the battlefield. Last updated: Tue, Mar 18 2014 8:41 am EDT

What kind of powers will Gods have?

A God can bestow blessings on members of guilds who have pledged loyalty to him/her. These blessings include (but are not limited to): - Resurrection Blessing - One free resurrection from death while exploring a realm (otherwise it costs gold) - Eye of God Blessing - Reveal layout of a Realm before exploring it (equivalent to a Realm Map). - Wealth Blessing - A small bag of gold will materialise in your horde - Experience Blessing - Double XPs from one battle - Realm Key Blessing - Access to a locked realm with a high chance of a rare artefact hidden within Blessings can be bestowed on individuals or entire guild memberships. Gods have to spend Worship Points in order use these blessings, with various costs. Worship points are earned over time based on the number of followers, their activity level and the guild ranking. It is possible for players to actively generate Worship Points for their God by sacrificing gold or artefacts at shrines found in Realms. Gods can also communicate with their followers, sending words of advice or encouragement, or maybe insults, depending on the personality that the god adopts. I expect Gods to be good at role playing and develop their character and style (otherwise I, as the Supreme Lord of all Creation, will express my displeasure). How will multiplayer match-ups be balanced?

The multiplayer matching system will be based both on Elo rating and Wizard Level (or if the game mode excludes equipment, Elo rating only). It is possibly to have some variation in wizard levels within a match, but the higher level wizard is also a higher level target, because he generates more Experience Points and Victory Points when killed compared to a lower level wizard, so this also acts as a balancing factor. Another thing to bear in mind is that higher wizard levels and equipment do not confer big advantages in battle, the effect is a little bit more subtle. The main value of equipment comes in interesting special abilities and biases that change your play experience rather than confer big power advantages. Last updated: Tue, Mar 18 2014 8:50 am EDT

How does this ‘extra game mode’ work for Wizard Lords?

As a Wizard Lord, you configure your wizard with spells and equipment and you submit him to a pool of wizards eligible to be placed in realms. Then the procedural realm generator will take your wizard and place him in a region with a realm ready for players to encounter. You will be told which realm your wizard is in (you can’t enter it and encounter yourself!), and you will be able to view any battle that your wizard was involved in to help you refine your configuration and tactics. Once the Realm closes (they don’t stay around for ever) you will be free to reconfigure your wizard and submit him to the pool for inclusion in another Realm. Wizard Kings have the ability to design their own Realms, and they can choose which Wizard Lords will be populating their Realms, but otherwise the process is the same. It is possible for a number of Wizard Lords to work with a Wizard King to design and populate a Realm. Last updated: Tue, Mar 18 2014 8:50 am EDT

Do I have to pay separately for each platform?

No. You will get one game key and you can use it to access all platforms we are currently committed to supporting - windows, mac and linux. Last updated: Tue, Apr 15 2014 5:34 am EDT

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
